War and Militarism: An intergenerational dialogue across cultures

(Reposted from: World BEYOND War)

The continuing emphasis on youth, peace, and security (YPS) in policy, practice, and research circles raises questions about how different sectors are working to strengthen the meaningful participation of young people in promoting peace and challenging war. In this context, the purpose of the War and Militarism: An intergenerational dialogue across cultures webinar, held May 14, 2021, was to explore the causes and effects of war and militarism in different settings, and to showcase innovative approaches being used to support youth-led, intergenerational peacebuilding efforts at global, regional, national, and local levels.

The webinar offered cross-cultural perspectives on militarism and war from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. It featured inspiring speakers from World BEYOND War (WBW), the Commonwealth Secretariat (CS), and their respective youth networks: the World BEYOND War Youth Network (WBWYN) and the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN). The webinar was designed to be a place for sharing, learning, and envisioning new possibilities for action.
