Training teachers to become transformative educators (India)

Dimapur, April 27 (MExN): Peace Channel organized one day teachers’ training on the theme ‘Education for transformative life’ at Peace Channel conference hall, Dimapur on April 21 with the goal of bringing better changes to the educational system of the State.

The main objective of the training was to capacitate the teachers to enhance education for transformative life, to equip them with leadership skills, and to have peaceful classroom environment in the institution level. Dr. Fr. CP Anto, Director, Peace Channel and Kishor Dass, Public Relation Officer were the resource persons.

Teacher Coordinators who have been assisting the Peace Club in different institutions of Dimapur attended the programme. The main topic that was stressed upon was on education for transformative life, leadership skills, and how to have a peaceful classroom environment.

Wokha: Peace Channel also conducted the same training at Don Bosco Youth Center, Wokha on April 19. It was attended by seven teachers from four schools of Wokha.

Peace activist Garrol Lotha, who spoke at the training, said Peace Education is the process of acquiring values, knowledge and developing the attitudes, skills, and behaviors to live in harmony with oneself, with others and with the natural environment. It can be used to impart knowledge and prepare the youth to have positive outlook towards life, she added.

Garrol also shared on the main objectives of Peace Education – to appreciate the concept of peace, to address fears, understand the nature of conflict, provide information for their solution, develop inter cultural understanding, and to explore potential for a future without violence.

She also stressed on the strategies that can be used to promote peace in times of conflicting situations and encouraged them to be role model for their students by building a better rapport with the students.
