The Global Campaign for Peace Education urges the peace education community to inquire into the terms of the withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan that would be as ethical and constructive as possible. We see such an inquiry as a first step toward the design of a comprehensive and effective transition strategy from a militarized to human security system.
The US Institute of Peace (USIP) awarded a grant to the Khadim Ul Khalaq Foundation (KKF) for its “Promoting Peace through Critical Thinking” project. KKF was founded by young civic leaders in 2012 in response to the rise of extremism and the Taliban in the region.

It is important to closely examine how the Iraqi government is rebuilding a conflict-sensitive educational system that will hopefully devote itself to both the mental health and the intellectual development of young Iraqi children. With this in mind, a peace education program seems like a viable solution for Iraqi children.
