Peace Education is the Lasting Solution to our Problems (Nagaland, India)


In the present context where Naga society is undergoing conflict situation, youth are called to be peace builders and agents of peace in our families and communities. With the objective of preventing conflicts by engaging, empowering and enabling the youth as peace builders, the Peace Channel family of Kiphire district organized a one day peace and cultural celebration recently at Saramati High School Campus, Kiphire, with the theme “Inspiring Change Towards a Violence Free World.”

In his address, Shri. T. Lankonsen Tsanglao, SDO (C) who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest encouraged the students to be ‘firm’ with their cause and be patient living up to the cause to change the society.’ He maintained that it is not only the job of the administrative, military, civil society leaders or any other officers to bring peace  but it is the duty of every individual to contribute and bring solutions and lasting peace in the society. Lasting peace is possible through peace education. He also said that where there is no good governance, the result is corruption and injustice and as a result  peace is disturbed and no development is possible.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. A.J.Sebastian, Principal of Trinity High School Kiphire, urged the students to learn follow our ancestral cultures as in to safeguard it from vanishing and keeping intake our identity. It is the culture and peace that bring people together irrespective of religion and region. It is the time to inculcate and preserve our dying culture and values of peace and harmonious living.

DSC_0585-300x200Mr. Akheto, information secretary USCC, encouraged and at the same time challenged the students to come forward leaving aside their pity differences and join hands to promote love and peace in the society. Peace is possible when we shed the differences. The time has come to stand together for peace.

The day’s program commenced with invocation by Brother Jijo from Loyola Hr.Sec.School, Mr delivered keynote address and  vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Tsapikyu the Peace Channel coordinator Kiphire district. There were over three hundred  youth participated in the programme and pledged to stand for peace.
