On February 28, 2020 the Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN) held its 21st annual conference at the United Nations. Sponsored by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the UN, the event was attended by 680+ educators and students and webcast around the world. The 2020 conference theme was “War No More.” The theme honored the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and its purpose as outlined in the Charter:
“We the Peoples of the United Nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war….”
Peace is the most profound purpose of the UN. The conference highlighted the roles educators can play in achieving and sustaining peace.
Tony Jenkins, Coordinator of the Global Campaign for Peace Education, spoke on a special panel on Peace Education and Transformative Education. The panel also included Eunhee Jung, Founder and President of Intercultural Virtual Exchange of Classroom Activities (IVECA), and was moderated by Ramu Damodaran, Chief of the United Nations Academic Impact Initiative.
