En un registro divulgativo y ameno, el libro explica los principales retos pendientes para la paz e invita a la acción. Parte de cincuenta cuestiones relacionadas con los conflictos armados y la paz —como el gasto militar y los ejércitos, los efectos de las armas, la explotación de recursos naturales, las condiciones mínimas para la paz, la educación para la paz o el apoyo a activistas pacifistas—. En cada uno de estos retos explica brevemente las causas y sus consecuencias, y propone acciones concretas, desde las más fáciles a otras más complejas, para contribuir a resolverlos. With more than thirty wars open in the world and the highest military spending in history, there will be incredulous people who think that building peace is unfeasible. But, as Nelson Mandela said, “it always seems impossible, until it is achieved.”
This book explains peace in a simple way and invites action. Part of fifty concrete challenges related to armed conflict and peace – such as military spending and armies, the effects of arms, the exploitation of natural resources, the minimum conditions for peace, education for peace or support for pacifist activists. In each of these challenges, it proposes concrete actions, from the easiest to the more complex ones, to help solve them. Plus, it features prominent peace movements and individuals, examples of real success, information, and resources to learn more.
It transmits a critical vision of violence and peace in the international arena, but also in your day-to-day life (at home, in class, on the street). It is important that you worry, inform yourself and get involved because to create the conditions for peace you also need yourself.
