The Art of Being Human

The Art of Being Human is a six-week course that dives deeply into your mind, body, and emotions to create a greater sense of ease and resilience in your life. Through learning about applied nervous system science (particularly focusing on trauma, how the body reacts to stress, relaxation, fear, and connection), emotional literacy training, and somatic movement practices, this course will leave you feeling more integrated, embodied, and alive.

The course is broken down into 4 modules– 

  •  Foundations and Building Awareness
  • Practices for Being with Emotions
  • Practices for Working with Emotions
  • Communication and Connection

Each module will include guided practices, direct instruction, group dialogue, personal reflection and deep guided relaxation. You will be provided with a course manual and will be expected to engage in 1-2 hours of work outside of class meeting times per week.

About Olivia:

Olivia Barber is a Columbia University-trained Educational Psychologist and life-long somatic practitioner with a passion for nervous system science and embodied emotional literacy. With over 2,000 hours of yoga and somatics training and a masters degree from the Spirituality, Mind, Body Institute at Columbia University, Olivia skillfully integrates applied neuroscience, modern psychology, and ancient body-based practice to create transformational learning experiences. As an interdisciplinary educator and coach, she has created methodologies to build embodied emotional literacy, develop healthier relationships, navigate challenging conversations, and prevent and resolve conflict. She has a deep passion for supporting people as they become more human, more humane, and more connected. She has designed and facilitated trainings and workshops around the globe on the neurophysiology of trauma, embodied emotional literacy, somatics, and social change.
