“IIPE Mexico PrepCom – Weaving Together Intercultural Peacelearning in a Pandemic Era” is a virtual peacelearning experience being conducted in preparation for IIPE Mexico – the International Institute on Peace Education that will take place in Mexico in the summer of 2022 (originally planned for 2021, postponed due to the pandemic).
This interactive virtual session will explore the many challenges experienced by peace educators as well as activists, artists, community leaders, researchers and others during the pandemic and how we’ve responded both personally and professionally. The session also invites exploration of how we might build communities of care and solidarity necessary for healing from the multiple traumas induced by COVID-19.
The event will feature and introduce the work of members of the IIPE organizing team from Mexico through short presentations. These presentations will be followed by interactive break-out dialogues where all participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences and reflect together on new opportunities or potentialities for peace, as well as explore what new spaces have opened up, or should be opened, to counteract manifestations of violence generated and/or exacerbated by the pandemic.
The event will be in both English and Spanish with simultaneous translation in the main session. Break-out room dialogues will be language specific. All are required to specify a language preference when registering.
Advanced registration required.
Due to technological and pedagogical limitations, only 300 participants will be able to join the session via Zoom. For those unable to join via Zoom, the opening session will also be live streamed via the IIPE facebook page.
