Webinar Series: Reimagining Peace and Security in Latin America and the Caribbean

World BEYOND War is hosting a new webinar series on “Reimaging Peace and Security in Latin America”. The purpose of this series is to co-create spaces for bringing in the voices and experiences of peacebuilders working, living, or studying in Central America, South America, Mexico, and the islands of the Caribbean. Its goal is to elicit reflection, discussion, and action specific to promoting peace and challenging war. The webinar series will comprise five webinars, one every month from April to July 2023, followed by a final webinar in September 2023.

PeaceBoat US, Peace Education & the Sustainable Development Goals in Latin America (Summer 2017 Trip), Two Scholarships Available

Peace Boat US is offering two full “Youth in Action for the SDGs” scholarships for a study program this summer called “Peace Education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Latin America.” This special program will take place onboard the Peace Boat ship as it visits Panama, Nicaragua, and El Salvador from June 20 – July 3, 2017.

Will peace in Colombia mean progress for universities?

A range of recent programmes have attempted to make Colombia more globally competitive in higher education. Amongst these programs are new international summer schools that bring together about 300 Colombian academics and students with international experts, including Nobel prizewinners, to address one of the three key “pillars” – equity, education and peace – flagged up in the president’s National Development Plan.

The coming of peace is naturally welcomed, but universities seem cautious in their optimism about what it is likely to mean for them. Universidad del Norte’s Roa expects “great economic investments for the post-conflict transition” but sees no evidence that increased funds will be directed towards higher education.
