Peace, Education and Reconciliation Unit established in Sri Lanka

A new Peace, Education and Reconciliation Unit (PERU) was declared open by former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on Friday (24) at the premises of the Ministry of Education.

According to a statement issued by the Office of National Unity and Reconciliation, the unit has been established based on a concept jointly developed by Kumaratunga, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and ministry secretary  Sunil Hettiarachchi with the objective of promoting and facilitating peace and reconciliation related education for school children.

A website of the unit, was also launched at the event.
