The Compartir Teacher Prize, awarded by the Compartir Foundation, is a tribute to the most outstanding teachers and principals of the Colombia, with the aim of promoting the social assessment of their work, making their teaching practices visible and supporting their professionalization.
A new, special Peace Education Prize category has been designated Compartir Teacher Prize (Premio Compartir al Maestro). The Peace Education Prize recognizes the best pedagogical practices for peace. The award recipient receives an academic trip with the International Visitor Program of the Ibero-American Community of Nations, awarded by the Carolina Foundation.
The Peace Education Prize will recognize, promote and make visible educational projects for teachers, teachers’ groups or rectors that meet the current selection criteria of the Compartir Prize for teachers and principals, and who are also transforming leaders using active pedagogical strategies – participatory, inclusive and meaningful practices – that promote attitudes, beliefs and practices consistent with cultures of peace, especially in contexts where exclusion, aggression and violence practices have been common.
The Peace Education Prize adopts the approach to citizenship education for peace proposed by the National Ministry of Education in the general guidelines for the implementation of the Chair of Peace: “Education for Peace is directly associated with citizen education, that is, the formation of citizens who are peacefully involved with each other, who participate actively and through peaceful and democratic means in initiatives that seek to improve living conditions in their contexts And in society in general, to contribute to strengthening Democracy and the Social State of Law, to respect public laws and public property, to value and respect differences, to build a historical memory that helps them to understand the past for And a more peaceful, inclusive and democratic future, that is carefully and responsibly related to animals and the environment, all within a framework of respect for human rights. “
